Black Friday Hop: SWAG

Oh no! Now that I have actual SWAG of my own, I'm going to be giving some away with every contest!

It's Black Friday in America, which is supposedly a day when everyone goes nuts to buy Christmas presents at lowered prizes. Until last year, I hadn't even heard of this day. Then I read a blog post by someone on how to organize your Black Friday (preferably starting a week before) to get the most out of it and to beat the crowds. As I'm very interested in marketing and marketing behavior, I sat glued to my screen, amazed at how this person had everything down to a point. She and her three friends did this together, each going to X shops to buy Y things for whichever of the four wanted stuff from that store (it was all carefully marked down on paper - with images and all). So with all four of them spread over, showing up veeery early, they managed to cover a lot of ground before noon. This sounds like a lot of fun. If there's anything I love more than shopping, it's shopping in the USA. But this also sounds exhausting. I assume you have to watch your shopping cart (if there's even room for one) or people will just take things from it.
Anyway, I don't have the link to this particular blog, but I found this instead: 10 Rules of Black Friday Shopping.

So, what am I doing today aside from giving stuff away? Hoping to find crazy deals on ebooks ^.^

So, here's the deal. This hop is ONLY for today, November 23rd. I'm giving away a choice of one of my College Fun and Gays books (winner's pick - Little Stalker included, as I expect it'll be released today) along with SWAG to one winner. The SWAG pack is international (since I'm shipping from Iceland anyway). You are, of course, allowed to decline the SWAG pack if it'll only end up in your trash bin once it arrives 'cause you only wanted the ebook ;P

What you need to do to enter the contest is to leave a comment with your email address, so I can reach you. The winner will be randomly picked, posted, and contacted the day after the hop.

But there's more!! There are grand prizes :D

1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet
2nd Grand Prize: A $75 Amazon or B&N Gift Card
3rd Grand Prize: A Swag Pack that contains paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more!

The first and third prizes are USA only - but I'm sure it's okay if you have a friend in the USA to whom you can have it sent. Remember, the more Black Friday blogs you comment on, the more chances you have of winning (that's over 200 chances!).

Please, if you're only commenting to increase your chances of winning the grand prizes - which is something you're totally entitled to do - please ask me not to include you in my personal giveaway so that the people who are actually interested in my books/SWAG will have more chance of winning. Thanks :)

If you ARE interested in my books/blog, here are a few ways you can follow me (this is not necessary to take part in the giveaway!): Google Friends Connect to your right, Newsletter, Facebook, Twitter (not terribly active on Twitter though, but I'm very active on Facebook). If you want to sample my writing, here's a free-read: Half-Baked Promises.

Anyway, happy hopping!

M/M Reader Appreciation Day: The Sweet Spot

The second post from me today. I'm taking part in the M/M Reader Appreciation Day on The Sweet Spot. It's a yahoo group that you have to sign up for if you want to enter the giveaway. My prize is a copy of The Walls Have Ears, but there are more authors offering prizes and you only have to sign up in one place. I'll also be dropping by for a chat/excerpt.

Short and scrawny college student Harley Santos has a strange relationship with the guy on the other side of his bedroom wall. For weeks, the two have been masturbating to each others voices, but they have never met in person.

When Harleys roommate (Ryan) is asked out on a date by one of his neighbors, Harley is devastated that his wall-mate mistook not-hot Harley for super-hot Ryan. Helping Harley through his heartache is Tasha Novokov, the other neighbor, who is tall, dark, and impossibly handsome.

When Harleys affections shift to Tasha, his heartache hits an all time high because with all the girls hanging around, Tasha has to be straight.

Back to School Bash!

Sure, school started almost a month ago, but we like to throw a bash anyway! Welcome to the No Boundaries Press's Back to School Bash where I'll be offering an e-copy of one of my College Fun and Gays stories. If you already have it, you may choose from one of the other books in this series.

I'm supposed to write about my best or worst back-to-school experience from when I was a young girl. I could write about when I insisted to wear make-up in first grade - got teased and never did it again; or when we were given a shot the first day back and I crawled under the table to hide - got teased about it and was first to offer my arm the next time; or when I was waiting to get into the classroom and got a basketball in my face (didn't get teased about that one, but the pain was bad enough). Hey, I like to write optimistic, fun stories, but sadly I don't have too many of those from school. I KNOW I had a good time, because I had friends, but the bad times so outweigh the good because of their severity that I'm having a hard time remembering the good ones.

So I'm writing about my boy-friend (not boyfriend). We used to walk to school together every day for the first few years. We were best friends and despite everything, the first day back to school was always exciting. But there was a dark shadow looming over every day walking to and from school - three or four dark shadows in the form of older boys who lived in the neighborhood. They'd ambush my friend, chase him to school and I'd stand back with galactic fear in my heart every time. I was scared as hell of them. It confused me. I knew he didn't like the beatings, but he laughed when they were chasing him. It wasn't until much later when I read up on bullying that I learned that his behavior is very common among bullied kids, to pretend that they're not afraid and that they're part of the "fun". They did catch him often - and they did on that first day back - beat him up and then gave him a hard time for crying (all three to four of them calling him a crybaby because he got beat up - idiots). This happened day after day for years, starting from the age of six.

I'm probably putting a huge damper on the hop with this story, but this is what pops into my mind when I think "school" in relation to my own childhood. These bullies not only hurt my friend in his past and future; they also hurt me in my past and future. In all my years of therapy, I've been trying to pinpoint the origin of my anxieties and depression. When did I become scared, insecure and anxious? When did I start to worry about people being hurt and people dying? When did start feeling so helpless, like the whole world was big and bad and there was nothing I could do about it? When did I start blaming myself for everything, and when did it start feeling so that everything I tried to do was never good enough?

It's only recently that I've been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There have been a number of events that have triggered the PTSD, but watching my friend being bullied by several older guys for years was the the first time I got PTSD, and the one that set my path for more anxiety and insecurity. I learned very early that people are dangerous and that I am but a teeny tiny person.

I've met four of those bullies in my grown-up years (they were six guys all together, but were usually only three-four at a time, always with the same two main bullies). Three of those I've met sent creepy crawlies down my back while I talked with the third (one of the two main bullies) and learned that he's actually a nice guy. He's the only one who doesn't scare me anymore, so I guess people can change.

Okay, onto lighter things. I'm giving away a copy of Hot Hands. Casper, the character in the story, faces his high school bullies in college, after two years away. Much of his internal struggle are feelings I've been dealing with (I was bullied too, by different kids). This is an erotic romance and it was an interesting challenge to write it that way. I also wanted to keep it light with humor so it wouldn't get too heavy with the serious matter of being bullied. Furthermore, I'm currently working on Cold Hands, the second part of the story.

I will draw, contact and announce the winner on October 2nd. Please leave a comment on this blog post along with your email address.

For weeks, college student Casper has been the victim of sail-by goosing and groping. The problem is that Casper would very much like to get more than groped by those wonderful, big, hot hands.

With a journal full of clues, he sets out to discover who his mystery groper is. However, he may be in serious trouble once he discovers the ominous identity.

Before we go, I'm inviting you to follow me on my blog (follow button to your right), facebook, Twitter, and newsletter. This is NOT mandatory to take part in the giveaway.

GLBT Madness!

Yeah, I know, I just did a hop a couple of days ago. They're so much fun that I'm actually doing TWO within the next few days. Today, and running through the 30th is The Romance Reviews' GLBT Madness Hop! Carrrazy hopping here with a lot of my favorite authors taking part! Of course I had to squeeze my ass in there as well. Yes, we're talking Rick R. Reed, K.C. Burn and Piper Vaughn to name a few ^.^

The second hop starts tomorrow and I'll make a separate post and prize for that one.

The GLBT Madness Hop will start on the 27th and end on the 30th. I'll draw, contact and announce a winner on October 1st, after using www.random.com to choose.

First, I'm inviting you to follow me on my blog (follow button to your right), facebook, Twitter, and newsletter. These are not mandatory to take part in the giveaway.

What's up for grabs? An e-copy of either A Life Without You or Absolutely Eric. Why those? I'm proud of all my work, but these are my novel-length series, Boston Boys. They center around a group of friends in Boston and each book features a different couple. Only one couple is established and their story hasn't been written yet, so the rest is about finding love, with various sub-plots. These friends get up to the craziest things, but they're tighter than family.

Anyway! The giveaway. Please read the blurbs below and state in a comment to this blog post which book you'd like and which format (pdf, mobi, or ePub). Also, please leave your email address so I can contact you.

Jesse's like a bar of soap: the tighter Adam holds on, the faster Jesse slips away. Or thats how it feels to Adam. It doesnt help that Jesse has a girlfriend back home and claims to be straight, but there's no way with all the sparks and physical intimacy flying between the two roommates.

When Adam believes he has reached his ultimate happiness, the bedroom walls come crashing down with a visit from Jesses girlfriend.

Now Jesse has to decide if he can come to terms with his sexuality, while Adam has to learn to accept that Jesse might never be able to crawl out of the closet.

Eric Wesley is short and snazzy, hot and happy. Or thats what he thought. After three years of living on the wild side hes tired of being a playboy and wants to find love.

Eric, however, has never been in love before and doesnt see that the guy whos been gazing at him all summer might be Mr. Right. Alexander Centauri isnt only style-less and clumsy, but also terribly awkward. After a miserable date, Eric plants Alex on another guys lap and goes after Mr. Wrong who looks so right.

When Eric realizes his mistake, it might be too late.

Want a free read? Half-Baked Promises is a free story I wrote for the M/M Romance Group on Goodreads. It can be downloaded in pdf, mobi and ePub :)

But there's more! After leaving a comment to this post, please click on the button below to go to the next blog for a chance to win some more goodies ^.^

Indulge in a Book

It's time to hop again! What do I like to indulge in? Reading, what else? ^.^ I like to savor the pages and read slowly for that reason. I also indulge in salt-licorice filled chocolate, but let's not talk about that ;)

I'm going to make this easy and hop straight to the giveaway. I write gay erotic romance, so if you're not into that, you don't have to leave a comment - you may, of course, just please say you don't read m/m so the ones who DO love it have a better chance at winning. You can still take part in the grand prize giveaway even if you don't want my prize. To take part in MY giveaway, just leave a comment below with your email address. Also, please let me know which story you would like to have should you win.

For the m/m lovers (and others interested), I invite you to follow my blog (button to the right), sign up for my newsletter, and follow me on facebook. None of these are mandatory to take part in my giveaway - they're just options if you're interested in following my writing.

Want a free sample of my writing? Half-Baked Promises is available in pdf, ePub, and mobi. Just click the link :)

My prize is an e-copy of one of my College Fun and Gays series:

Hot Hands (All Romance eBooks Bestseller)

For weeks, college student Casper has been the victim of sail-by goosing and groping. The problem is that Casper would very much like to get more than groped by those wonderful, big, hot hands. With a journal full of clues, he sets out to discover who his mystery groper is. However, he may be in serious trouble once he discovers the ominous identity, and it’s not because of the light bondage the groper seems to prefer.

Hot Hands is the first of five in a series of short stories. Each story is independent of the others and each covers a deep issue. Hot Hands focuses on the effects of high school bullying for being gay.

Grade-A-Sex Deal

When College professor Daniel Corrigan was brutally kicked out of his home after revealing his true sexuality to his wife, he had to make a whole new life for himself. For the first time in two years Daniel’s main heartache isn’t the none-existent relationship with his two kids, but the fact that the grade-A-sex deal with his student Troy Anderson is about to expire. After a whole semester of office fun, Troy has managed to squeeze his way into the core of Daniel’s soul. Daniel, however, is positive he’s nothing more to Troy than a teacher who can modify a grade.

The Walls Have Ears

Short and scrawny college student Harley Santos has a strange relationship with the guy on the other side of his bedroom wall. For weeks, the two have been masturbating to each other’s voices, but they have never met in person.

When Harley’s roommate (Ryan) is asked out on a date by one of his neighbors, Harley is devastated that his wall-mate mistook not-hot Harley for super-hot Ryan.

Women Maintain Gay Stereotyping

I'm continuing the topic of female m/m authors. You can read the first part here and the second part here. This is the final part.

You want to hear something funny? When women do write unemotional guys who are driven by testosterone, like "men are supposed to be written", they get reviews saying that the reader couldn't connect with the characters emotionally. You know why they couldn't? People expect emotions in romance books.

The people who down-talk female m/m authors who write men with emotions, don’t seem to consider the genre. There are "rules" to every genre, though these rules can be bent all sorts out of shape. However, once you stray too far, you've ventured into a different genre (or no genre at all). This is why most of the male m/m authors I've read also write guys with emotions: they're writing in the genre and know what the reader expects (or maybe they’re just writing realistic men?). You can’t, for example, write in the romance genre if there’s no romance in the story. Furthermore, you can’t have a romance with no feelings involved – that isn't romance! There are different ways to displaying the romance and feelings, but it won’t be a romance if there aren't strong emotions behind it.

Comparing the books I've read by male and female m/m authors, I can't say there’s a whole lot of differences in the gay male characters. Very often, I don’t see a difference at all. Some say that there’s a big difference in the sex scenes, and I’m not going to refute that, but is a sex scene written by a woman any worse than the ones written by a man? I’d say that in most cases they’re not.

I've often heard people say that female m/m authors maintain gay stereotyping. Writing gay men with emotions doesn't make stereotypes out of gay men. Like I stated in my first post, all men have emotions. Furthermore, men, gay and straight, are as different as they are many. Most of the books I've read have such vast range of characters that I rarely see the same character twice. I wonder what sort of books these people have been reading for them to claim that gay men are subjects of constant stereotyping in books written by women. Very old books? Side characters in non LGBT books? I don't see it in the more recent gay fiction books. I don’t know, maybe I've just been lucky.

Or maybe these people see a flamboyant character in a book and think back to all the TV stereotypes through these past years. Yes, there are TV stereotypes of gay men (as nicely pointed out in the US version of Queer As Folk), however, I don’t see a single “gay type” that appears more in m/m books than other “types” (well, apart from the physical builds, but that’s another topic altogether and has to do with the genre as well). From what I've experienced, the characters are very diverse, and even when I do find flamboyant characters in books, each of them is unique and much deeper than the TV types. Not to mention that just because certain, for example, flamboyant men have become stereotypes, we must be careful not to make them into taboos. There are, after all, flamboyant men out there in the real world and they shouldn't be made to feel bad about being who they are.

New Release!

I'm happy to announce that Grade-A-Sex Deal was released by No Boundaries Press today! I'm doing a pretty funky office-chair wiggle. So glad I have a tiny heart shaped sticker over my webcam ^.^

Blurb:

When College professor Daniel Corrigan was brutally kicked out of his home after revealing his true sexuality to his wife, he had to make a whole new life for himself. For the first time in two years Daniel’s main heartache isn't the none-existent relationship with his two kids, but the fact that the grade-A-sex deal with his student Troy Anderson is about to expire. A Grade-A-Sex Deal is the second of five in a series of short stories, College Fun and Gays.

I've set it up on Goodreads.

Author Chat, Giveaways and More

Image

There's an author chat at No Boundaries Press facebook page and a chance to win Hot Hands.

Another m/m title to win is Kharisma Rayne's Bound by Temptation (the cover is so cool!).

They're only for today, so be quick :)

I shared the blurb for my February NBP title on the author chat. It's called A Grade-A-Sex-Deal:

For weeks, college student Casper has been the victim of sail-by goosing and groping. The problem is that Casper would very much like to get more than groped by those wonderful, big, hot hands.
With a journal full of clues, he sets out to discover who his mystery groper is. However, he may be in serious trouble once he discovers the ominous identity, trouble that has nothing to do with the light bondage involved.

That's right, it's a student/teacher relationship ;) There's no cover yet, but you can expect me squeeing over it soon.

Finally, a little reading status. I'm 50% in 18% Gray and I loooove it so far. I love dystopians.

Oh one more thing! Hot Hands got a B+ review from Brief Encounters. I'm not exactly sure what that's in stars, probably 4.

'A Life Without You' Out Now!

My debut novel was released today! I'm both nervous and excited about it. I suppose every new author feels that way when they see their work baby-walk into the literary world. Don't you just love the cover???

I just got a contract from MLR Press for the next book in this independent series (Boston Boys), called Absolutely Eric. It features Eric Wesley, a secondary character in A Life Without You (he'd scowl and bitch if he ever heard anyone refer to him as "secondary").

The blurb for A Life Without You is as follows:

Jesse’s like a bar of soap: the tighter Adam holds on, the faster Jesse slips away. Or that’s how it feels to Adam. It doesn't help that Jesse has a girlfriend back home and claims to be straight, but there’s no way with all the sparks and physical intimacy flying between the two roommates.
When Adam believes he has reached his ultimate happiness, the walls come crashing down with a visit from Jesse’s girlfriend.
Now Jesse has to decide if he can come to terms with his sexuality, while Adam has to learn to accept that Jesse might never be able to crawl out of the closet.

Here's the purchase links, if you're interested: MLR Press (publisher), Amazon.com, All Romance e-books, Bookstrand. I'll keep posting places as they pop up.

Here's the Goodreads link.

Stuff Your Stockings Winners!

Image
Wow, people, this has been unreal. I'm all out of stamina. That was a lot of hopping!

First, I only thought I'd get maybe 5 entries, but I got 27. I've discovered new m/m authors during my own hop, and I've made some awesome friends ^.^

I wish I could give everyone a prize. In a way I can! When No Boundaries Press launches their sale site at the beginning of January, free reads will be available. My very-short story, In His Pocket, will be available for download. For those of you interested, I will post an update with a link on this once the big day arrives (plus, you'll hear me shout it across Facebook and Twitter).

Image
By the way, No Boundaries Press is hosting a giveaway (see the top of their left column) for a chance to win 3, 6, and 12 books, winner's choice (they have all genres) - if you guys are still hungry ;)

For the Blog Hop prizes, however, I have used Random.Org to select these winners:

For a copy of Hot Hands that releases on January 8th to No Boundaries Press:

# 24 - Pati!

For a copy of A Life Without You that releases early 2012 (don't have a date yet - but the manny is going to formatting this week) to MLR Press:

# 4 - Pommawolf!!

For a $15 gift card to the No Boundaries Press store (once it opens in January):

# 11 - Anzu!!!

Congrats ^.^ I will contact the winners today and once the prizes are ready for delivery.

Finally, I want to thank everyone for their kind comments and wishes. Rain pointed out that there was no blurb for A Life Without You on my website, and she was totally right. I've fixed that and there's also a more comprehensive blurb on Hot Hands as well.

Thanks to all those who followed.

Merry Christmas!

First Cover!

My First Cover!

People! We have an official cover! No Boundaries Press is working super fast (honestly, they answer my emails within minutes if it's during waking-hours in America). It was designed by lovely Dakota Trace, and she nailed it on first try.

This is the first of five short stories in the College Fun and Gays series. They are all independent of each other, but all take place in a college and/or dorm. The other covers will have that college building, but a different photo above it and a different color (I think).

So far, NBP have been amazing to work with. We haven't begun on the edits, but those girls are so sweet and energetic, and ready to answer every question I have. I also get a whole lot of say in the cover art (we're working on the next two as I'm writing this).

So yeah, Hot Hands will be out in January 2012 and will possibly be my debut - if A Life Without You won't be released by then (I still don't have a date on that one).

Royal Research

Written on May 19 2011

My favorite gay musician and public figure, Paul Oscar (image)

Isn't it great when you enjoy writing a story so much that the words just fly off your fingertips? That's how it is for me right now (yay!). I have written 46,000 words in three weeks and I probably have around 10,000 to go before Eric's story is complete. I might even complete it over this weekend!

There is so much more humor in this one, because that's the kind of guy Eric is. People who see me writing and giggling crazy at the same time must think I'm mad, but I don't care, because I'm loving every minute I spend on this story and I think I'll get a little sad once I'm done. All I can say is that I have a very good feeling about this one.

I've had to do quite a bit of research, because it deals with more external matters than the other one. There's also this little fact that I don't live in America, so I had to do a whole lot of research on gay rights over there (hetero rights and gay rights are the same over here - church weddings and everything...except for blood donations, I suppose. I think they're following international regulations). May I just mention here that our Prime Minister is lesbian? That's how tolerant my people are. I'm not bragging, I just hope that the rest of the world catches up soon!

I have also had to research a lot about school systems, hospital bills, and a little bit of drug abuse. Also stylish furniture, popular music, sexy male actors, and trendy clothes and hair products (because Eric's a pretty fashionable guy). Then, of course, there were sex positions, pleasure spots, and body hair (I came across this hilarious article about a guy who decided to shave his butt for the first time. I guess I can link it since this is a +18 thread - but I must insert a warning here! It's groooss. And I mean gross, but oh-so-funny. I laughed so hard that I cried).

I don't know how many hours I've spent all in all on research, but may I just say thank goodness for the internet!

First Novel Manuscript Completed!

Written on May 4 2011
Image

I just finished my first full-length manuscript in the gay genre. I have written other manuscripts in other genres, so it's not a complete first novel. But there's nothing like the feel of accomplishment when you close the newly completed manuscript.

This one is about a romance between two roommates (Adam and Jesse) in a college dormitory. Basically one of them is gay and the other straight and has a girlfriend, but there's this passionate tension between the two guys. The big question is if Jesse can come to terms with flushing his future plans down the drain to be with Adam or not.

The genre is gay (duh) erotica, but there's a whole lot of romance, humor, and a bit of drama (isn't there in every gay novel?)

I have started on an independent sequel starring Eric, the minor character from Adam and Jesse's book. Adam and Jesse will also make appearances, but I decided to write a book about Eric instead of a sequel around the other two, because Eric became such a strong and interesting character that he demanded a book of his own. I absolutely love that guy.

I had a lot of fun writing Adam and Jesse's story, but I think I'll have even more fun with this one.
